Trekking Risk & Safety Disclaimer
Effective 10 June 2026 · Last updated 10 June 2026
Trekking in the Nepal Himalaya is a serious mountain activity with real risks. This page explains those risks, what we require of you, and the limits of the information on this site. Please read it carefully before you book. It forms part of our Terms & Conditions.
1. Trekking carries inherent risks
Even on well-travelled routes, trekking involves hazards that cannot be fully removed. These include, but are not limited to:
- Altitude. Acute mountain sickness (AMS) and the more serious HAPE and HACE can affect anyone, regardless of fitness or experience, on routes that climb above roughly 2,500 metres.
- Terrain and weather. Steep, slippery, or exposed ground, river crossings, rockfall, landslides, avalanches, snow, and sudden weather changes.
- Remoteness. Limited communications, basic facilities, and long evacuation times in areas far from roads and hospitals.
- Illness, injury, and the standard of local medical care available in mountain regions.
2. Travel and rescue insurance is mandatory
You must hold valid travel insurance for the full trip that covers high-altitude trekking to the maximum elevation of your route, emergency medical treatment, and helicopter evacuation. We cannot accept you on a trek without it. Insurance is your responsibility, and we strongly recommend you confirm your policy’s altitude limit in writing before you travel.
3. Health and fitness
You are responsible for assessing whether you are fit for your chosen trek and for disclosing any medical condition that could affect you at altitude or on remote trails. The information on this site is general and is not medical advice. Consult a qualified doctor about your fitness to trek, altitude medication, and vaccinations before you travel.
4. Your guide’s authority
Your safety comes before any schedule. Your guide may change the route, slow the pace, add an acclimatisation day, or turn back when conditions, weather, or your health make it the safe choice. These decisions are final. We would rather hold a group back than push into danger.
5. No guarantee of summits or views
Mountains, weather, and trail conditions are outside our control. We cannot guarantee that you will reach a particular viewpoint or pass, or that skies will be clear. A safe, well-judged trek is the priority.
6. Accuracy of information
Altitudes, distances, walking times, and itineraries on this site are good-faith estimates that vary with conditions, group pace, and route changes. They are provided for planning and are not a guarantee of exact times or distances on the day.
7. Assumption of risk
By booking a trek with 6K Nepal Treks, you confirm that you understand the risks described here, that you accept them voluntarily, and that you take responsibility for your own decisions on the trail within the guidance of your licensed guide. This does not remove our duty to operate responsibly and with reasonable care.
